Terms of Service

These terms govern your use of Compass — a personal finance tracker. By purchasing or using Compass, you agree to these terms.

What you're buying

A one-time licence to use Compass as a personal finance tool, on as many of your own devices as you want, for as long as the product remains available. Compass is a hosted web application served at firecompass.app. Onboarding takes about 60 seconds: paste your license key, sign in with Google, and Compass creates a Google Sheet in your Drive automatically. No scripts to paste, no manual configuration.

What you're not buying

  • A subscription. There are no recurring charges.
  • A SaaS service with uptime guarantees. We aim to keep firecompass.app online, but do not promise indefinite availability.
  • The right to redistribute, resell, or republish Compass — the hosted application — in whole or in part.
  • The right to scrape, mirror, decompile, or rehost the live application at firecompass.app, including for the purpose of building a competing product.
  • The right to remove copyright notices or branding.

Permitted use

You may:

  • Use Compass on any device you own or control
  • Sign in to Compass with multiple Google accounts (each personal use case)

You may not:

  • Resell, repackage, or redistribute the application
  • Use Compass to provide a service to others (e.g., as a white-labelled product for clients)
  • Scrape, mirror, or rehost the application at firecompass.app
  • Reverse-engineer for the purpose of building a competing product

Refunds

Compass is a digital product delivered immediately on purchase. By completing checkout you waive the EU consumer-rights cooling-off period for digital goods (a standard step on the payment processor's checkout page). All sales are final and non-refundable. If the product fails to function as described, contact [email protected] and we'll work to resolve the issue.

Your data

Compass stores your financial data in your own Google Sheet, in your Google Drive. We never have server-side access to the contents of that Sheet. See our Privacy Policy for technical detail on how Compass connects to your Drive via Google OAuth. You are responsible for: backing up your Sheet (Google Drive does this automatically), securing your Google account (enable 2FA), and managing your Compass session via the Settings → Disconnect from Google button when you want to revoke access.

“As is” disclaimer

Compass is provided “as is” with no warranty of any kind. We do not warrant that:

  • Calculations (FIRE projections, save rates, debt payoff schedules) will be accurate for your specific tax situation
  • The product is fit for any particular purpose, including tax filing or regulated financial advice
  • The hosted version will be available indefinitely
  • The product is free of bugs

Compass is not financial advice. It is a tracking tool. Consult a qualified financial advisor for decisions that matter.

Liability cap

To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim arising from your use of Compass is limited to the amount you paid for it. We are not liable for indirect, consequential, incidental, or special damages — including but not limited to loss of data, loss of profits, or loss of use.

Service availability

Compass is hosted on Cloudflare Pages, and our authentication Worker runs on Cloudflare Workers. We do not guarantee uptime. If the hosted version becomes unavailable, your data remains in your Google Sheet under your control — Compass never had server-side access to it. You can read and edit your Sheet directly using Google Sheets.

Changes to these terms

If we change these terms, the “Last updated” date will reflect that. Material changes will be announced on the Compass website. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. Any dispute arising from these terms will be resolved in the courts of Hong Kong.
